Does it make sense to buy a gun?
Main Post:
I've always been pretty anti gun. Never really wanted one in my house i case it was used against me, never felt the need to carry. But as a woman and seeing the scary shit that is going on, would buying a gun be a wise move?
Top Comment: Go to a range. Get an instructor. Try it out. Handling firearms is a skill & there's no such thing as learning too many skills.

Gun ownership?
Main Post:
Hey y'all, I've been considering buying a handgun to keep in my home recently. It's one of those things where I hope to never need it, but also realize the police would never arrive in time to be helpful. Curious if anybody has recommendations or guidance on the process of getting a handgun in Seattle?
From what I can see, you have to take a gun safety class and pass a background check. Is that all there is to it?
Top Comment: The online certification thing can work for any WA state gun store. However, one big suggestion. Buying a firearm and keeping it in your house does not increase safety. YOU are the safety, the GUN is only a tool. YOU must learn to be capable of using the firearm to defend yourself in a situation. Please consider not only doing the legal minimum! But take some courses with a friendly insturctor and learn how to use your tool to defend you and the ones you love.
Gun-free Americans of Reddit, why don't you own a gun?
Main Post:
There's a statistic that America has more guns than people (albeit by 19%). Many Americans own multiple firearms. I understand that many Americans are supportive of gun reform, but many who do still own one for self defense. So what's your personal stance on not owning a gun at all?

Gun ownership in the U.S.
Main Post: Gun ownership in the U.S.
Top Comment: If you do the math, that is like 3 guns for every person that owns a gun? The majority of the population does not own a gun, but the ones who do own are most likely own multiple.
